Lighting the Candle of Solidarity

We have been fighting against Covid-19 since February. We started with taking precautions like maintaining personal hygiene, covering our faces with masks, and carrying sanitizers everywhere. We, as a country, assumed that by doing so we will avoid the virus altogether. But that did not happen. With every passing day, the number of cases increased and we had to take desperate measures to keep ourselves safe, finally resulting in the 21 days lock-down.
Today marks the end of 12 days of lock-down. Although we did venture out to buy groceries and essentials a couple of times, we have been pretty much locked up in our homes. There are a lot of rumours going around regarding the extension of the lock-down that has brought down the morale of many citizens. To address this concern, our Prime Minister requested us to light a candle in the darkness at 9 pm today.
Why are we doing this? Some found it stupid and unnecessary and some made fun of it by creating memes. Among those who are political, some praised this step while others criticized it. But, at the end of all this, we need to understand that lighting a candle together for nine minutes (I know. Random duration. I don't understand it either) brings us together in these difficult times. For those who are quarantined alone, this creates a feeling of solidarity. We are all in this together and we will come out of it together.
So, let us all keep aside our differences and light that candle together. Let's feel the power of unity. Let's fight this virus together by staying home and persevering.
Stay indoors, stay healthy.

The Brooding Cat

Do you know a person who can sit quietly at one place and think for hours? I won't be surprised if you say no. Such people are very rare to find. With social media, games, movies and so many things to pass our time, thinking or brooding about things is a rarity in human beings nowadays. If we are bored, we simply pick up our phones and check all the social media apps. By the time we are done going through all the status updates, stories, tweets and Instagram posts, we realise that a couple of hours have passed already.
But there are few thinkers who can sit at one place, without being distracted by any gadgets, and brood for hours. Think and analyse different things. And if you've known such a person, you'll also know that they can provide deep insights about seemingly mundane things. They can sit and think about a book or a movie for hours and end up understanding them better than anyone else.
Today's oil pastel is about these brooding souls. Since we are under lockdown, we must try to get in touch with the deep thinker within us. There's a popular saying that's going on nowadays, If you can't go outside, go inside.
Let us take advantage of all the time we have now and think. Think about all the positives and negatives in our lives. We might end up solving conflicts, mending relationships or coming to terms with our own shortcomings and dissatisfactions.
Stay indoors, stay healthy.
