Bridging Gaps

Coming to day 2 of lockdown, I wanted to create something with splashes of colours. Call me a slow poke but I recently discovered how delightful Pinterest is. After my first oil pastel, I started creating a board for possible oil pastel inspirations. I came across the original of this piece. Such a beautiful combination of colours that I immediately decided that this will be the oil pastel for day 2.
Since we are under lockdown and staying 24/7 with our families, quite literally, let us bridge those gaps that have opened up over the years. This is an opportunity to re-build those relationships and create new memories.

The Dream of Hogwarts

On day one of lockdown, after completing my office tasks for the day (work from home.. urrghh!), I sat down on my couch surfing the channels on the TV. As usual, nothing interesting was on. After about 5 minutes of disappointment, I chanced upon a channel playing Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix. Like a true Potterhead, I decided to watch it. Such a stress buster. One of the scenes shows the gang arriving at Hogwarts on a starry night. That became the inspiration for my first oil pastel under lockdown.
I googled and found some amazing pieces of art already created with the same inspiration and found a perfect and easy one for me to re-create using oil pastels. The image you see is the result. It's not the finest but I promised myself that I will not hold back even if it is not up to the mark.
Your likes and kind words will encourage me to be better at this.

The Magic of Oil Pastels

All my life, I have known I am terrible at art. I used to be the absolute worst in my class every year when it came to drawing, sketching and painting. I always felt sad about it because I envied the people who had the amazing talent of putting down on canvas and paper what they imagined. Imagination is something I am really good at but putting it on paper has been a struggle since childhood.
A couple of years ago, I discovered oil pastels and the magic they create on paper. Innumerable YouTube tutorials later, I became confident enough to re-create some amazing paintings that I found online using oil pastels. I am no expert but I would say I am definitely making progress.
Since the lockdown was imposed to keep us safe from Covid-19 infection, I decided to create one oil pastel every day by drawing inspiration from some of the beautiful paintings out there.
This blogging site is all about the oil pastels I am going to create under the lockdown along with the inspiration behind it. Leave a kind word if you like them.
